Those of us in the wedding jewelry industry understand that there are really two camps, two sides, two different teams working alongside eachother and we almost never intersect.  There is the factory made, gold and diamonds side and then there is the handmade, Titanium and Natural products (like wood and stone) side.  We are on the handmade/titanium/natural products side.  It doesn't mean we hate diamond/gold people, it is just that we prefer handmade rings to factory made rings.  And while there are of course still a few goldsmiths out there, the vast majority of gold rings are factory made and largely overseas.  Sadly, even handmade titanium ring makers are starting to get ripped off by factories.  We suggest you ask the name of the single craftsman making your ring before purchasing a "handmade" ring.  The name of our Ring Maker is Scott Richter.

We also prefer the use of sustainable materials over gold and diamonds.  That is just our vibe.  The other great thing about titanium is that it is extremely durable.  Gold is like butter compared to titanium which is why gold cannot be reliably inlayed with wood, stone, beach sand, etc.  Titanium is insanely tough, which is why it is not only great for wedding rings but is also awesome for constructing SR-71 Blackbirds, artificial limbs, bicycles, spaceships, you name it.  If titanium can keep the fastest plane ever built together, it can certainly handle your finger.

Wedding season is marked by warm weather, spring flowers, and sunny days, but whatever season you choose to have your wedding, you want wedding bands that are made to last. Primarily due to the point above, couples are branching out from the traditional gold rings and into the realm of bands made from non-traditional metals, like titanium. Since gold rings can be pricey and require maintenance, titanium wedding rings offer distinct advantages. While titanium is not a precious metal, it certainly has many precious qualities. Titanium is one alternative metal that is making big waves in the wedding jewelry industry for its highly desirable features. The durability of titanium is practically unmatched, so the rings offer a long-lasting look and are reliable.

Smokey grey in color, titanium is well known for its use in the aerospace industry, where performance really counts. The lightweight but strong nature of titanium makes it not only perfect for aircraft but also tremendous for wedding rings. The durability of titanium wedding bands is nearly unparalleled. This alternative metal is three times stronger than steel and has the highest strength-to-weight ratio, meaning you get the strongest ring for the least amount of weight and bulk.  Keep in mind that our Inoxidated steel is arguably just as strong as titanium since it is put through a hardening process. Precious metals like gold are soft in nature and tend to scratch easily. Titanium, on the other hand, makes use of its strength and resists scratching much better than traditional metals. Although it’s not entirely scratch proof, titanium will certainly stand up better to the test of time when it comes to everyday wear and tear. Anywhere you see a scratch on a titanium ring would have been a gouge on a gold ring.  The high grade of titanium’s strength and low weight make it an excellent choice for wedding rings that need to last a lifetime.

In general, the hardest thing on earth is a diamond, but a diamond will shatter.  Titanium will not shatter.  Some people point to Tungsten Carbide as being harder than titanium, while that is true, Tungsten Carbide will shatter on impact.  Not good for a wedding ring.  Tungsten Carbide is also uncomfortably heavy.

People come to us for all sorts of reasons, but titanium and its well known durability is a strong pull.  Especially for people who are hard on their hands, like our United States Military.  Not only do they like using a metal that is also used in their line of work, but they also like the fact that they can inlay their rings with meaningful materials like Beach Sand From D-Day Omaha Beach, Normandy France or Iwo Jima.

At Minter and Richter Designs, we are proud to get to offer a 10% discount to all veterans and active military.  On top of that, we donate 50% of the cost of our memorial rings to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.  Our son, Syrus, is a Marine and we are extremely proud of him and all our military here at MRD.  Titanium is the perfect metal for all our strong and brave protectors and first responders.  Since only Marines are allowed to go to Iwo Jima, we are very grateful to our Marine friend who got us some precious sand from there.

The durability of titanium wedding bands is also notable because it is a naturally occurring metal. The warm, grey color of the metal is alluring and solely a result of the metal’s natural hue. Titanium’s durability is also seen in its corrosion resistant feature. Wedding bands made from titanium will not tarnish, unlike traditional precious metals like gold. This is a wonderful advantage for rings that will be worn day in and day out. Imagine never worrying about tarnishing again! Titanium wedding bands also have another advantage: they are bio-compatible and hypoallergenic. This is a natural feature of titanium. The metal does not react to body chemicals so it will keep your skin free of irritation. Anyone with sensitive skin will particularly benefit from this very appealing feature.
